Fun sighting today

March 4th, 2006 at 05:40 am

(not my picture, I got it from http://songstar.org/birds001.html

This is a red-crowned parrot. I saw 4-5 today. They are so fun. REALLY loud. They attract your attention with their noise and then it's fun to watch their antics.

Yesterday, I was sitting in the conference room facing the glass block window (they're slightly mirrored on the outside) and saw one of these make its way up the window:

Remember I said the blocks are slightly mirrored? Yeah, he thought his reflection was another anole, so he kept puffing out his neck membrane. They bob their head while they do that. Distracting to say the least.

Oh I love anoles! My terrarium sits here empty since last March. I really miss the anoles, but they cost $6 each plus the cost of crickets. Not an expense I've wanted to shell out lately. Maybe I'll get some for my birthday?

LOL! my house is being taken over by geckos!...there's a baby on the wall as I type this...
and we get an ocasional bird or two...bright little creatures, but, I only know the "salvadoran" name: chiltotas...which I don't think will say much...the other day I saw two chejes, too...they are blue, and have long tails, and "crowns"...very beautiful...I saw those when I was dropping Ale off at school...most unusual!!

Too cool. My cat hunts lizards, so no lizards in the house.

We do have 2-3 geckos who hang out on the front porch. I try to convince dh to leave a light on for them (to attract bugs for them to eat) but he won't go for it.

We are just on the edge of the tropics, so we don't get a lot of the coolest birds. We have a lot that aren't found elsewhere in the US, but are probably fairly common a little further south.
